Best Buy’s recycling project

Did you know that technology is the fastest growing waste stream on the planet?! In other words, all our old music players, tv’s, computers, cell phones, kitchen appliances, etc…are  adding millions of tons of garbage to our landfills each year.  You may be thinking….so what?

Well, know this. Electronic products can unleash toxic chemicals that, when not disposed of properly, can leach into the earth and air polluting everything that grows or breathes!

That’s why, as one of the world’s largest retailer of consumer electronics, Best Buy wants to help be a part of the solution.

In comes their industry leading electronic recycling project.

Free in every Best Buy location throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico, this movement is put in place to provide a safe and responsible option for people looking to throw out some old items.  Old or new, purchased at Best Buy or not, it doesn’t matter, they’ll recycle it.  They actually recycle 387 pounds of electronic was EVERY MINUTE that the store is open!

I’m so glad that I’ve learned about this program recently because there are quite a few old electronics I was going to toss, but have been holding onto because I wasn’t sure what to do with them; I knew not to throw them in the trash.

If you’re like me and have some cleaning out to do, you can find out more about the program here.  Or watch what happens here.

And since it’s out with the old, how about in with the new! Think about upgrading to some energy efficient, energy star rated appliances, which Best Buy has an abundance of!
