Last night was free kids night at the San Antonio Children’s Museum. Always looking for events to do with my mini’s, this was right up our alley. The children’s museum wants to make a family trip affordable and doable on every budget so they have partnered with San Antonio’s downtown wide initiative, Downtown Tuesday’s, to attract more locals and business during the work/school week. All city operated lots, garages and meter’s are free after 5 p.m. With free kid’s admission from 5-7 p.m. at the museum, what other incentive do you need to take the kids out for a midweek treat?
The SA kids museum might be my mini’s favorite place. There’s seriously something for every age and interest. Our 8 and 2 1/2 year old boys, Rayne and River, could stay all day and not tell me they’re bored. Everything is hands on learning fun. Play and imagination are the best form of teaching and learning for a child and the museum is abundant in both.
There’s even something for our 6 month old daughter Honor. The Tot Spot specifically caters to the littlest of your brood, up to 36 months, learning to crawl, sit up and fine tune their motor skills.
A Victorian parlor, Mission courtyard, and runway complete with control tower and jet all teach children different aspects of time and life around the world.
8 year old Rayne’s favorite was the PowerBall Hall where he learned the power of cause and effect, wind, gravity, and other basic science principals.
2 year old River’s favorite exhibit was the HEB market. This exhibit, modeled after a real HEB, let’s kids walk through with their pint sized shopping carts and fill them with their groceries of choice. They then walk to the check out to ring up their purchases!
There are also live shows and demonstrations. On one of our trips, we were fortunate enough to catch a magic and science show. My mini’s were spell bound by it, not to mention hubby!
And don’t forget about making new friends!
